Hi,
So far, we didn't receive a single submission of a robot controller
although 30 people created an account on the web site.
I don't believe the problem is too difficult (map building and
exploration was actually the topic of the first ALife contests we
organized and we got about 50 teams involved in the contest). I suspect
the contest is stalled because we are not promoting it actively. This is
going to change in the next few months. We are currently developing /
improving a web plugin to display the matches online (that will be
really cool). Currently, it works only for Linux (Firefox & other
Mozilla compatible browsers) and Mac OS X (Firefox, Mozilla & Safari).
We are finalizing it for Windows (Firefox, Mozilla & Internet Explorer).
We have a test page here:
http://www.cyberbotics.com/wplayer/test.html (warning: beta versions here)
Where you can see it working. Also the http://roboka.org web page should
allow you to install / use the plugin from Linux.
We are aware of some limitations of this plugin and are working to fix them.
When we have a stable version for all platforms, we will put it on the
roboka web site and will start promoting actively the contest.
Hopefully, this will happen before this fall so that we can really have
a chance for a new start this fall (when everyone gets back to University).
We also may change a little bit some details (like we may introduce
other robots than only the Aibo robots, like a rat robot and a wheeled
robot), but we won't change the principle of the game.
I really appreciate your interest and your patience.
You can still start coding if you have time this summer from the current
version of the contest as the time you will invest in this won't be
lost, your code and experience will be a significant advantage over
people starting only this fall!
And of course, if I receive submissions this summer, I will be more than
happy to put them only and start the contest with them.
I hope we will have the greatest contest in the history of Webots!

Post by Mark HorvathHi Robotamus,
I hope many people... Although this year the problem seems to be a bit
more complicated. Building/discovering maps, finding the way to the
reacharger needs much more sophisticated algorithms.
I think to write these, takes a lot of time for all of us. I really
hope that we will be ready on time.
Cheers,
Mark
Just checking out the current hall of fame, and nobody in there.
Just curious, are there many people getting it working? Will the
hall of fame soon get full of action? Unfortuntely I don't have
the time this year to have a go at it so I can't really comment on
how hard it is!
